The Sopwith Camel remains one of the most iconic aircraft of the First World War—credited as the backbone of British airpower, with more than 5,000 produced. Its name derived from the distinctive “hump” created by the fairing over its twin Vickers machine guns, which were synchronized to fire through the propeller arc. With its agility and firepower, the Camel enabled British pilots to keep pace with the rapid advances in aerial combat during the conflict.
This Aero Craft Printed Panel portrays Sopwith Camel B6299, flown by Flight Lieutenant Norman McGregor of No. 10 Naval Squadron, Royal Naval Air Service, based at Teteghem, France in September 1917. The composition places the aircraft against the backdrop of a World War I trench map—used here as an artistic setting that underscores the atmosphere of the era rather than representing a specific geographic location.
The insignia is presented here as artist impressions, based on later references dating from around the 1950s. While not period-authentic, they are derived from designs believed to have originated with the original squadron insignia, many of which have been lost to time.
Each Aero Craft Printed Panel begins with a Matt Chromaluxe Aluminium print, produced via advanced dye sublimation for exceptional clarity and fine detail. It is then mounted onto our signature hand-riveted aluminium frame, inspired by authentic aircraft fuselage construction, transforming the artwork into a true aviation collectible.
