The RAF Type A.1 Roundel, in use from 1939 to early 1942, was the defining insignia of RAF aircraft during the earliest and most crucial phases of WWII. Our in-house design features this historically significant emblem set against the iconic Dark Earth and Dark Green camouflage pattern, which became synonymous with early-war fighters such as the Supermarine Spitfire Mk I and Hawker Hurricane Mk I.
Produced on Matt Chromaluxe Aluminium using advanced dye sublimation, this Classic Metal Print delivers rich, authentic colours and sharp detail with a subtle, non-reflective finish. The frameless, modern presentation is achieved with our specially designed float mount block, creating a 2 cm standoff from the wall for effortless display.
Historical Background – The Type A.1 roundel marked the aircraft that fought in the Battle of France and the Battle of Britain, symbolising Britain’s resolve during the darkest days of the war. The Dark Earth and Dark Green camouflage scheme, introduced in the late 1930s, was designed to conceal aircraft from both enemy pilots and ground observers. Spitfire and Hurricane pilots carried these markings into some of the most legendary dogfights of WWII, forever linking this combination of colours and insignia to the defense of Britain.
