This exceptional image showcases RAF Typhoon ZJ913, known as “MOGGY” after its distinctive WWII-style codes (FM-G), during a dedicated photographic flight over the UK. The aircraft, flown by Typhoon Display Pilot Flt Lt David ‘Turbo’ Turnbull alongside a fellow 29 Squadron pilot, was specially painted for the 2024 display season to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Operation Overlord — the D-Day landings that began on 6 June 1944.
Captured during the Bournemouth Air Festival in August and September 2024, the flight was organised in collaboration with The Centre of Aviation Photography, led by RAF pilot Flt Lt Andy Donovan, to ensure this short-lived but historic paint scheme was preserved in highly dynamic imagery. On the second sortie, Typhoon ZJ917 in 29 Squadron markings also joined the formation.
The photograph stands as a powerful visual tribute — connecting the Typhoon Force of today with the legacy of the pilots who flew from British airfields in 1944. It is a rare collector’s piece, blending modern airpower with heritage in a striking composition.
