The RAF Type A.1 Roundel is an iconic emblem of Britain’s early WWII aircraft, marking the dawn of modern aerial warfare. Our in-house design pairs this historically significant insignia with the Dark Earth and Dark Green camouflage pattern that defined RAF aircraft during the early Battle of Britain era. This two-tone scheme was a hallmark of early-war fighters such as the Supermarine Spitfire Mk I, Hawker Hurricane Mk I, and Bristol Blenheim, designed to blend with both sky and ground environments.
Each Aero Craft Printed Panel begins with a Matt Chromaluxe Aluminium print, produced via advanced dye sublimation to achieve rich colours and fine detail with a subtle, non-reflective finish. The print is then mounted on our signature hand-riveted aluminium frame, inspired by the construction of WWII aircraft fuselages, making each piece as authentic as it is visually striking.
Historical Background – The Type A.1 roundel was standard on RAF aircraft from 1939 through early 1942, appearing during pivotal moments like the Battle of France and the Battle of Britain. The Dark Earth and Dark Green camouflage scheme, introduced in the late 1930s, was specifically developed to conceal aircraft both in flight over English countryside and on the ground. Fighters such as the Spitfire Mk I and Hawker Hurricane—aircraft that became legends of the early air war—proudly bore these markings and camouflage during Britain’s most critical defensive battles.
