The RAF Type C.1 Roundel is one of the most recognised insignia in British aviation history. Our in-house design showcases this emblem against the distinctive Medium Sea Grey and Dark Green camouflage seen on RAF day fighters from mid‑1942 onward, including famous aircraft such as the Supermarine Spitfire Mk IX, Hawker Typhoon, De Havilland Mosquito (fighter versions), and Bristol Beaufighter.
Produced on Matt Chromaluxe Aluminium using advanced dye sublimation, this Classic Metal Print offers rich, enduring colour with a subtle, non-reflective finish. The frameless, contemporary look is achieved with our specially designed float mount block, creating a 2 cm standoff from the wall and allowing for effortless display.
Historical Background – The Type C.1 roundel was officially introduced in July 1942 as the standard RAF aircraft roundel. The Medium Sea Grey and Dark Green camouflage scheme was formalized in September 1944 for night fighters, but the Day Fighter Scheme combining Medium Sea Grey undersides with Dark Green topside patterns became standard on single‑engine fighters like the Spitfire and Typhoon from 1941–42.
This combination of roundel and camouflage evokes a pivotal moment in RAF history, symbolising the shift to more effective concealment and recognition during high-altitude combat and large-scale operations.
